CSUN’s Kanowsky Wins Decathlon

Chris Kanowsky of Cal State Northridge won three of five events on the second day of competition to win the decathlon with a score of 6,245 points in the American West Conference track and field championships at Hornet Stadium.

Layne Richards of Southern Utah--who led after the first day with 3,204 points to Kanowsky’s 3,142--finished second with 6,117 points.

Aaron Masters finished third for the Matadors with 5,220 points, and CSUN’s Brian Marston was fourth at 5,013.

Kanowsky won the 110 high hurdles in 18.61 seconds, the discus with a throw of 121 feet, and the javelin with a 187-7 toss.

In the heptathlon, Diane Korbel of Cal Poly San Luis Opispo took first with 4,721 points. CSUN’s Carlene Jones finished third with 3,885 points.
