Southern Section Individual Tennis Tournament Is Today at SeaCliff
The Southern Section boys’ tennis round of 16 and quarterfinals will be held today, beginning at 1 p.m., at SeaCliff Tennis Club.
The top four singles players from Orange County--Elliott West of Laguna Beach, Ryan Thompson of Foothill, Joost Hol of Foothill and Ryan Moore of Servite--won their two preliminary matches in straight sets last Saturday to advance.
Hol, who won the boys’ 16s at Ojai last month, and Moore are freshmen.
In doubles, the county’s top three teams advanced: Chad Smith and B.K. Chang of Villa Park, Lance Stern and Rob Claus of Foothill and Min Lee and Felix Ling of University. Dennis Harper and Kevin Arnold of Laguna Hills were the only unseeded team to advance after upsetting of No. 4 Reza Farokhpay and Ricky Kaplan of Woodbridge, 4-6, 7-7, 7-5.
The semifinals, followed by the finals, begin at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at SeaCliff.
