HIGH SCHOOL PLAYOFFS : El Camino Real Clips Poly in Seventh, 3-2

A single by Marvin Jones scored Byron Carnes to tie the score with two out in the seventh inning and an error on the same play scored pinch-runner Joe Morales to give El Camino Real High a 3-2 victory over Poly on Thursday in a City Section 4-A Division quarterfinal baseball game at Poly.

Poly (20-7) loaded the bases with two out in the bottom of the seventh but Jones made a diving catch in right field to preserve the victory for El Camino Real (19-8-1), two-time defending City champion.

The teams traded single runs in the second inning before the Parrots took a 2-1 lead in the sixth when Steve Guerrero scored on Abel Salazar’s two-out single.

El Camino starter Mike Conn (7-2) went six-plus innings before being relieved with none out and a runner on first in the seventh by sophomore Shaun Fishman, who earned his third save.

Carson 11, Monroe 2--Wayne Nix pitched two innings of hitless relief and drove in both runs but the Vikings (19-9) lost to the Colts (22-10) at Carson.

Monroe starter Mike Perez lasted four innings and surrendered all 11 Carson runs. Monroe scored in the second and seventh.

Banning 6, Chatsworth 3--The Chancellors (17-10) walked seven batters and allowed all six Pilot runs in the first two innings at Chatsworth, which wasted a bases-loaded threat in the first.

Joe Tillmon and Tony Ardito each had two hits for Chatsworth.

SOFTBALL

Westlake 3, Foothill 2--Cathy Davie hit a three-run home run as the Warriors (24-6) beat the Knights (22-2) at Foothill.

Kelly DeArman (23-5) struck out four and walked none.

La Canada 1, La Sierra 0--Jacki Tenerelli scored on Kara Campbell’s third-inning double to give La Canada (23-3) a Division IV quarterfinal victory.

Lindsay Parker pitched her 13th one-hitter of the season, striking out 12 and walking two.

Upland 3, Alemany 0--Sarah Farnworth pitched a three-hitter and had 11 strikeouts as Upland surprised top-seeded Alemany in the Division III quarterfinals.

Tammy Alcantar had two hits for Alemany (27-2). Upland (17-8), which finished second in the Baseline League, scored a run in each of the first three innings.

La Reina 5, Flintridge Prep 1--Jennifer Baltruzak had three hits and two RBIs for La Reina (23-5) in a Division V quarterfinal at Flintridge Prep. Baltruzak pitched a one-hitter, striking out eight. Aimee Thompson had two hits and scored three runs.

Cerritos Valley Christian 1, Moorpark 0--The Crusaders (15-4) scored an unearned run in the first inning at Cerritos. Tina and Tracey Milburn each had two hits for Moorpark (19-7).

Fillmore 4, Oak Park 2--Tammi Beck and Jamie Porter drove in two runs in the seventh inning but Oak Park’s comeback fell short against their Tri-Valley League rival in a Division V quarterfinal.

Nicole Ortiz had two hits and drove in two runs for the Flashes (18-5). Colleen McDonald had two hits for the Eagles (17-10).

Ontario Christian 2, Paraclete 1--Ontario Christian (17-4) scored on a sacrifice fly in the 10th inning of a Division V quarterfinal in Antelope Valley.

Kristal Nessa had three of Paraclete’s six hits and scored in the first inning.

Cornerstone Christian 10, Oakwood 1--Lisa Carter hit a pair of two-run singles, Julie Siefert scored three runs, Julia Tamai had three hits and Karri Becker had a two-run double for the Eagles (20-0-1) in a Division IV quarterfinal at Oakwood.

TENNIS

Harvard-Westlake 9, Sunny Hills 9--David Brown won two singles sets and the Wolverines (22-2) advanced on games, 83-76, in a Division II semifinal at Sunny Hills.
