NCAA COLLEGE BASEBALL REGIONALS : SOUTH REGIONAL ROUNDUP : Second-Seeded Louisiana State Buried by Rice
A six-run sixth inning, including Jeff Venghaus’ three-run home run and Mark Quinn’s two-run double, put Rice ahead for good as the Owls upset host Louisiana State, 15-7, Friday in the second round of the NCAA South Regional.
Rice (42-17), making its first trip to the NCAA tournament, remains undefeated. The Owls came from behind Thursday to beat James Madison, 8-7.
LSU (46-17), seeded second in the regional, fell to 1-1 in the tournament.
Central Michigan 14, NE Louisiana 11--Toby Kominek hit a two-run home run during a seven-run first inning for Central Michigan (41-18), which eliminated Northeast Louisiana (37-20) from its second NCAA tournament appearance. Central Michigan had 25 hits to 17 for Northeast Louisiana.
