Santa Clarita / Antelope Valley : Rewards For Vandalism Clues Offered

Share

Rewards of $1,500 are being offered by the city for information leading to the arrest and conviction of the people involved in two unrelated vandalism incidents that occurred in May, city officials announced Monday.

“These two incidents really outraged the entire community,” said Kevin Tonoian, an administrative analyst for the city Public Works Department. The reward money, he said, is the most the city has ever offered for graffiti-related crimes.

“It was something to, No. 1, let the community know that this type of activity just won’t be tolerated,” Tonoian said, “and the city is going to work with the community to find who is responsible.”

The first incident involved a Canyon Country resident whose garage was broken into May 16. The windshield of his car was smashed and racial epithets were written on the vehicle in graffiti style.

The second vandalism incident occurred May 23 when the library at Highlands Elementary School was broken into, resulting in $11,000 in damage, city officials said. Graffiti was sprayed on a piano and on other items.

City officials are asking the public to call the sheriff’s COBRA unit, which handles gangs, at (805) 255-1121 with any tips on the two cases.
