Greg Norman missed a 10-inch putt for par on the last hole, but still shot a five-under-par 65 Saturday, good for a three-stroke lead over Fuzzy Zoeller heading into the final round of the Greater Hartford Open.

“It was just one of those careless things. That’s all,” Norman said of the missed putt at Cromwell, Conn.

He had seven birdies and two bogeys Saturday and is at 14-under 196, breaking the record for 54 holes of 11 under set last year by David Frost.

Norman, the runner-up at the U.S. Open last week and at Hartford last year, will be paired today with Zoeller, who shot a third-round 66.

Grant Waite made a 20-foot birdie putt at the last hole for a 67 that put him at 200, tied with Kirk Triplett. Billy Andrade, whose round of 62 broke a course record of 63 set by Zoeller in the second round, was at 201.

Bruce Summerhays and Larry Laoretti, two former club pros, birdied the final hole to share the lead after the second round of the Senior PGA Nationwide Championship at Alpharetta, Ga.

Summerhays, the first-round leader with a course-record 63, shot a 71 and Laoretti a 68 on Saturday. Both are at 10-under 134 on the hilly 6,777-yard Lakeside Course at the Country Club of Georgia.

Three-time U.S. Open champion Hale Irwin (65) and Bob Murphy (64), a two-time winner this season, are one shot behind.

Michele Redman shot her second 68 and Michelle Estill had a 69 to share the lead after two rounds of the $650,000 ShopRite LPGA Classic at Somers Point, N.J.

Redman made birdie putts of 18, 30 and 25 feet on the back nine as the weather improved in the rain-delayed event. She and Estill completed two rounds at six-under 136.

Betsy King played 27 holes Saturday, completing a first-round 66, and was at 137, along with Brandie Burton.
