Discount Turf on Newport Beach Surf

Newport Beach has initiated a program of lodging and restaurant discounts attractive to seniors. The Newport Beach Visitors Bureau publishes an illustrated visitors guide that lists attractions, shopping, dining, sports and leisure, entertainment, sightseeing, arts and culture, plus a calendar of events. The hotels and resorts listed below are offering discounts. Prices listed are for two people occupying a room. Callers must state that they are requesting the senior discount when calling for reservations.

* Four Seasons Hotel: 285-room high-rise across from the Fashion Island shopping mall. Age 55 and up. Rate after 40% discount is $165; telephone (800) 332-3442.

* Hyatt Newporter Resort: 26-acre resort, 410 rooms. Nine-hole golf course, health club, three swimming pools, tennis club with 16 courts with spa. Regular rate $164; American Assn. of Retired Persons $129; tel. (800) 233-1234.

* Marriott Suites: All-suite lodging located on Newport Bay. Complimentary beverages and snacks, wet bar, refrigerator, continental breakfast and morning newspaper. Indoor-outdoor pool, spa, health club and saunas. Regular rate $109; AARP members $99; tel. (800) 228-9290.

* Sheraton Newport Beach: 338 rooms, full buffet breakfast daily, hosted cocktail party each evening, morning newspaper and coffee delivery. Regular rate $139, discount (valid on Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights) is $79; tel. (800) 325-3535.

* Sutton Place Hotel: 435 rooms, heated pool or nearby beachside cabana club, spa, sauna, two lighted tennis courts, designated areas for cycling, jogging and weight-training. Depending on day and availability, seniors get a rate of $85; tel. (800) 810-6888.

One Newport Beach restaurant that offers special menu rates for seniors is Five Crowns, which has a “Prime of Your Life” program for those over 55. The discounts are 25%.
