A 10th-grade student from Hamilton High School has been named a 1995 Christopher Scholar.

Norma Sanchez was one of five Los Angeles Unified high school students to receive the award, which carries a $12,000 scholarship upon graduation from high school.

Each Christopher Scholar who graduates from high school with a 3.25 grade-point average or higher will receive an additional $4,000 scholarship.

A member of the girls’ junior varsity basketball team, Norma grew up speaking only Spanish and did not learn English until after she started school.
