Central Los Angeles : Social Service Center Gets $400,000 Grant
The innovative social service center at Hyde Park Elementary School in South Los Angeles was already succeeding: Its first health and resource fair attracted 1,500 people and it offered day care and gang intervention.
But now, with a recently awarded $400,000 state grant, administrators expect the year-old Hyde Park/LEARN Family Service Center to flourish. The center offers services ranging from day care to mental health services. Beginning this week, a volunteer medical doctor will spend four hours on campus examining children.
The three-year grant, made under a state program called Healthy Start, is designed to bring both public and private social and health service agencies to the school’s students.
