Granada Hills : Woman Sentenced for Illegal Child Care

Share

A Granada Hills woman was sentenced to three days in jail and ordered to perform 320 hours of community service after pleading no contest to illegally operating a child-care service, Los Angeles City Atty. Jim Hahn announced.

Mary Ann Torres, 48, was also banned from operating a day-care center for three years under the sentence by Los Angeles Municipal Court Commissioner Barry Kohn. Torres was cited for continuing to operate an in-home child-care service after her license was revoked in 1993.

Torres operated a business known as Torres Family Day Care at her home before her license was revoked on Oct. 29, 1993, Hahn said. Torres was cited for exceeding the number of children she was licensed to care for and for the “dangerous conditions” of her home, including unsafe furniture and hazardous items such as household poisons, medication and chemicals within the reach of children.
