Travel Agents Lose Bid to Block Commission Cap: U.S. District Judge James Rosenbaum in Minneapolis denied a request by travel agents for a preliminary court order to block a cap on commissions imposed by the major commercial airlines. The judge said the agents had failed to prove “irreparable harm” to the industry or the public. The judge also denied the airlines’ request for summary judgment, saying there are legal issues that need to be resolved with a trial. On Feb. 9, Delta Air Lines Inc. became the first airline to limit travel agent commissions. It said it would cap commissions at $25 on a one-way ticket and $50 for a round-trip ticket. Before the announcement, travel agents were paid 10% of the fare charged.
