Ice Dogs Get Tough in 5-3 Victory
John Lilley and Wayne Strachan scored third-period goals to lead the Ice Dogs to a 5-3 victory over the Kansas City Blades in front of 6,235 at the Sports Arena on Saturday.
It looked as if the Ice Dogs (10-7-2) were more interested in knocking players down than scoring, even if they won’t admit it. But 32 minutes in penalties in the first period made it seem that way.
Ice Dog Coach John Van Boxmeer was getting tired of saying it. He needed his scorers to score and his “goon squad” to keep his scorers in the clear.
He hinted at possible trades, talking about players not doing their job.
After a two-goal and one-knockdown performance Saturday, it looks as if Darcy Martini will stay, as will Todd Gillingham, who had one goal, two assists and a knockdown.
Viktor Kozloc scored two goals and had an assist on David Bruce’s goal for Kansas City (8-8-1).
