Obituaries : Otilio J. Ulloa; Longtime County Resident
Otilio J. Ulloa, a longtime Ventura County resident, died Sunday at his Santa Paula home. He was 86.
Ulloa, who was born Dec. 13, 1909, in Teocaltiche, Jalisco, Mexico, moved to Ventura County 77 years ago.
He worked for more than 25 years as a custodian for the Santa Paula Elementary School District, where students lovingly called him “Janitor Joe,” said his daughter, Lupe Mendoza of Santa Paula.
An avid traveler--particularly after his retirement--he and his wife of 64 years, Tomasita Ulloa, traveled all over the world, touring Europe, South America, Asia and Israel. “His last trip was to be Alaska, but he couldn’t make it,” Tomasita Ulloa said. “He loved traveling.”
He was a member of the Santa Paula Nomads camping club and of Casa De Mexicano.
Ulloa was preceded in death by his son, Tomas Daniel Ulloa, in 1966.
He is survived by his wife, Tomasita; his daughters, Evangelina Ulloa, Julia Nava, Carmen Lopez, Lupe Mendoza and Tillie Ritenour, all of Santa Paula; nine grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held from noon to 5:30 p.m. today at Pierce Brothers Stetler Mortuary in Santa Paula. A rosary service will be held at 7 p.m. tonight at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in Santa Paula.
The Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church. Father Francis Good, a friend of the family, will officiate. Burial will follow at Santa Paula Cemetery.
