The City Council has approved an agreement to recover some more of the money that Santa Ana lost in the Orange County bankruptcy.

Under the agreement approved at a special meeting Monday, the city would receive $1.7 million in remaining claims from the county. It has already recovered $122 million, according to a staff report.

A federal judge is expected to review the agreement approved by Santa Ana and other county cities by April, said Doris Felman, a deputy city attorney. If the judge approves the agreement, the city is expected to receive the money within 30 days.

Another estimated $500,000 owed to the city will come if and when other county funds become available.

The council approved the agreement on a 4-0 vote. Councilman Robert L. Richardson, who works for the county, abstained from voting, and Councilmen Ted R. Moreno and Tony Espinoza refused to vote because the cameras that regularly broadcast council meetings were not hooked up.
