Nunn’s National Theater Post: British director Trevor Nunn, 56, known for such blockbuster musicals as “Cats,” “Les Miserables” and “Sunset Boulevard,” has been named director of London’s prestigious Royal National Theater. Nunn, who was artistic director of Britain’s Royal Shakespeare Company for 18 years before going solo in 1986, starts a five-year contract in October 1997. He succeeds Richard Eyre, who spent nine years building the Royal National Theater into a major supplier of work to both Broadway (Tony winners “An Inspector Calls” and the revival of “Carousel”) and Hollywood (Oscar nominee “Richard III” and “The Madness of King George”).
