Base, 3 Firms to Take Used Motor Oil

Share

As part of a statewide recycling program, the California waste management board has certified three Ventura County businesses and a military installation to collect used motor oil from the public.

Residents will be paid 4 cents a gallon for the oil.

More than 1,854 businesses throughout California participate in the program, launched in 1992 to help prevent illegal disposal of the toxic oil, which can contaminate drinking water. Oil to be dropped off for recycling should not be mixed with any other materials and should be in containers of 5 gallons or less.

The newly certified centers are at Point Mugu Naval Air Weapons Station; the Ojai Union 76 gas station at 1124 Maricopa Highway; the Dikes Chevron service station at 2199 S. Victoria Ave. in Ventura; and the Simi Valley Unocal station at 1369 Erringer Road.
