Update * Follow-up on the news : O.C. Library System Seeking Grant Funds

Share

The county library system is seeking $21,000 in federal grants to purchase books for two regional libraries. The Major Urban Resources Library Grant is designed to provide money for branches in cities with populations of more than 100,000.

County Librarian John M. Adams said he hopes the grant will provide about $10,000 for the Garden Grove Regional Library and $10,000 for the Irvine Heritage Park Regional Library.

The library system is mired in a financial crisis that has resulted in deep cuts in service and operating hours. Since 1993, the system’s acquisitions budget has dropped from $6 million to $4 million. Another 25% cut is proposed for next year.
