O’Bric, Kuhn Perform Well
Despite a fever and competing in the Masters meet the day before, Kerry O’Bric went to Mt. San Antonio College for the multi-event championships Saturday with victory in mind. She won the long jump and placed third in the triple jump at the Masters Friday night at Cerritos College.
Saturday, the Edison senior was on pace for her best-ever score in the heptathlon and finished strongly Sunday, setting a meet record in the long jump (19-3 1/2) and finishing with 5,031 points to win her third consecutive championship. Her score is third-best in county history, behind the national record of 5,237 set in ’82 by Fountain Valley’s Sharon Hatfield. O’Bric’s score ranks 13th best all-time nationally.
Four other Edison athletes placed among the top 10. Katie Zimmon finished seventh overall, first among all sophomores.
On the boys’ side, David Kuhn of Calvary Chapel was the top county participant. Kuhn, competing in the decathlon, was in third after the first day, but battled back with his stronger events to place first among all competitors with 6,012 points.
O’Bric and Kuhn lead the nation with their marks.
