China took advantage of Argentina’s frontcourt injuries to post an 87-77 victory that put it in good shape for its first men’s quarterfinal berth.

Hu Wei-Dong and Zheng Wu each had 22 points for China (2-1), which has preliminary-round games left against the United States and Lithuania but should still finish fourth in its six-team pool and advance.

China’s best previous Olympic finish in five appearances was 10th in 1984. The Chinese finished eighth at the World Championships two years ago.
