After a seven-hour standoff with police, an Anaheim man who allegedly threatened several officers with a shotgun surrendered Monday morning and was taken into custody, police said.

Zandle Bode, 39, was arrested on suspicion of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon and brandishing a firearm, according to Lt. Ray Welch.

No shots were fired during the standoff and no one was injured, Welch said.

The incident began about 9:30 p.m. Sunday, Welch said, when Bode allegedly held a gun to the head of a neighbor he mistakenly believed was trying to steal his Harley-Davidson motorcycle.

Officers who responded to the neighbor’s call said Bode then stood in his doorway in the 400 block of Kodiak Street and shouted threats while loading a shotgun, according to Welch.

More than 30 police officers surrounded the home and about two dozen people were evacuated from neighboring apartments, police said, and electricity to the Bode apartment was cut off.

As police snipers stood by, a negotiation team spoke with Bode through much of the night, Welch said. The man surrendered about 5 a.m. Monday.

Police took a shotgun, a 9-millimeter handgun and one other firearm from Bode, Welch said. The department has no record of responding to Bode’s residence for any trouble in the past, he said.

Bode was being held Monday at the Anaheim City Jail in lieu of $50,000 bail.
