With a Guide, See Paris Like a Native

Visitors to Paris who disdain tour buses and wish for an insider’s look at the city have a new resource: Deborah Glusker, a native Angeleno who has lived and worked in Paris for the last 26 years, has begun offering a “personalized Paris” guide service that she tailors to the individual’s needs.

Whether it’s a tour of art galleries or a swing through the jazz clubs, a flea-market blitz or a visit to some of the couturiers, Glusker can arrange it. She can organize a business meeting, complete with phones, or help the tourist find an unusual museum or a little-known restaurant. “Paris can be intimidating,” she says. “A personal guide, advisor and interpreter is a good resource to have.”

Glusker, who has worked in art and fashion in the French capital, calls her new company So Now You Know Someone in Paris. She can either give advice on places to go, for an hourly consultation fee, or will hire out as a personal tour guide. For a consultation, she charges about $70 an hour, depending on currency fluctuations. Her half-day fee is about $180, full-day about $300.
