Superman (WB, Sunday at 5 p.m.) flies into town with a 90-minute animated premiere explaining the beginnings of “the man of steel” on the doomed planet of Krypton and how he got to Earth. The show will air regularly Saturdays at 10 a.m. For ages 6 to 14.

The much-lauded story of The Lion King (Disney Channel, Sunday at 7 p.m.) makes its television premiere. The animated musical features Academy Award-winning songs by Elton John and the voices of actors Matthew Broderick, Jeremy Irons, James Earl Jones, Whoopi Goldberg and others. Cub Simba leaves home after the death of his kingly father until he is persuaded to return home and reclaim his position in the circle of life. For the family.

Blues Clues (Nickelodeon, weekdays at 12:30 p.m.) introduces to preschoolers a live-action character named Steve (played by Steve Burns). He invites young viewers to help him solve puzzles presented by his animated puppy, Blue. For ages 2 to 5.

In Street Sharks (ABC, Saturdays at 8:30 a.m.), four brothers who are half-human and half-shark (and fully animated, of course) burst onto the cartoon scene. They’ve been mutated by an evil genetic engineer whom they do battle with while searching for their father. For ages 6 to 11.

Flash Forward (ABC, Saturdays at 11 a.m.) is a new live-action series about two 13-year-old friends, Becca and Tucker, entering the eighth grade. For ages 6 to 11.

CBS unveils three new series Saturday: Project G.eek.eR (8:30 a.m.), an animated series about a skinny nerd in a jumpsuit grappling with his unlimited powers. Bailey Kipper’s P.O.V. (10 a.m.) revolves around 12-year-old Kipper (Michael Galeota), who secretly records his daily life using hidden cameras. In the computer-savvy Secrets of the Cryptkeeper’s Haunted House (10:30 a.m.), the Cryptkeeper tries to foil two kids who try to unlock the secrets of a haunted house. For ages 2 to 11.
