Chapman Faces Key Tests in UCSD
The Chapman men’s and women’s soccer teams could help themselves immensely against UC San Diego during a doubleheader Friday in Orange.
Both UCSD teams are nationally ranked in NCAA Division III and perennially among the best in the West Region. The Triton women are ranked No. 1 in the West and fifth in the nation. The men are second in the West and 15th in the nation.
The Chapman women’s team is ranked fifth in the West; the men are ranked 10th.
The women play at 5:30 p.m.; the men at 8.

Football: After a bye week, Chapman will take on Chico State at 7 p.m. Saturday in Orange. Chico State (2-2), an NCAA Division II team, lost to UC Davis, 20-6, last Saturday. Last season, Chapman beat Chico State, 10-7, at Chico State’s homecoming. “We know these guys are going to be sky high,” Chapman Coach Ken Visser said. “We know we are going to be facing a very motivated team.”

Coach quits: Gary Houser, Chico State football coach for eight years, announced his resignation this week. He stepped down immediately to take a sales job with a pharmaceutical company. Rob Tomlinson, 28, the Chico State offensive coordinator the last five years, has taken over as coach.
