A 13-year-old North Hills boy died Tuesday morning, when the motorcycle on which he was a passenger collided with a car in an East Valley intersection, Los Angeles police said.

The passenger, Wilson Brandon, was pronounced dead at the scene.

A foot of the driver of the motorcycle, Mark Pfefferle, 40, of San Fernando, was severed.

Pfefferle was rushed to Providence Holy Cross Medical Center in Mission Hills, where he was listed in critical condition.

The car, driven by Carolynne J. Malone, 51, of Van Nuys, was traveling on Roscoe Boulevard at about 9:25 a.m. when the collision occurred as she was making a left turn onto Ranchito Avenue, Officer Alex Medel said.

The accident is still under investigation, but Medel said it appeared that the motorcycle was “traveling at a high rate of speed” as it approached the intersection. Both Brandon and Pfefferle were wearing helmets, Medel said.

After impact, the motorcycle skidded out of control and struck a mail-storage box, throwing it an estimated 70 feet onto the lawn of a nearby home, Medel said.
