* Despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary, The Times continues to promote the myth that “for too long, health research disproportionately dealt with male subjects.” Your editorial on Nov. 25 was prompted by a new study looking at estrogen treatment for elderly women with Alzheimer’s disease. Ironically, this is an example of research in an area that has long been relatively neglected in men. Treatment of post-meno- pausal women with estrogen and progesterone has been the subject of a great deal of research for decades. Only in the last couple of years have we even started looking at hormonal treatment to alleviate aging symptoms in men.
