A newly elected prosecutor was shot early Tuesday by an intruder in his home, and police had no suspects. Paul Gains was shot about 2 a.m. He was hospitalized in stable condition with wounds to the chest and arm. No motive was known, but Police Chief Glenn Bowers said the circumstances indicated that Gains was an intended target. “We think someone was waiting for him to get home,” Bowers said.
