Robbers Empty Bank Teller Drawers, Flee

Share

Police are looking for three men who burst into a Bank of America early Friday and emptied teller drawers.

The robbery occurred shortly after 9 a.m. at a branch at Lincoln Avenue and Valley View Street. Witnesses told police that three men wearing heavy clothing, gloves and masks entered the bank and threatened violence.

Two of the robbers then hopped the counter and emptied teller drawers before fleeing in a dark-colored vehicle, police said. Witnesses said they could not see the men’s faces.

A customer who hid in the vault near his safe-deposit box said he heard the three robbers order customers to the ground.

Buena Park and Cypress police found a dark blue 1989 Buick LeSabre, motor still running, behind a nearby Kmart store right after the robbery. The car, reported stolen from the Los Angeles area Sunday, is believed to be the car used in the heist.

Later Friday morning, investigators arrested a 42-year-old Cypress man who apparently found some of the money and picked it up. However, police do not think the man was otherwise involved in the heist.

Officers were led to David McDonald King during the course of the investigation. He was arrested on suspicion of possessing stolen property, said Buena Park Lt. Robert Chaney.

“What we think has happened is he found some of the money that was taken in the robbery,” Chaney said. “That’s about the extent of it.”
