Herbert’s Arm, Bat Lift Hoover

Freshman Cori Herbert pitched six perfect innings and drove in the run for Hoover High in a 1-0 victory over Burbank in a nonleague game Friday at Burbank.

Herbert (8-3), who struck out 14, surrendered a pair of singles to open the seventh inning. Her sixth-inning double scored catcher Justine Takizawa.

Guinevere Platt had three hits for Hoover (9-3).

Moorpark 5, Calabasas 1--Erin Heinbechner pitched out of a bases-loaded jam with nobody out in the seventh inning for the Musketeers (3-2, 2-0) in a Frontier League game at Moorpark.

Heinbechner struck out 10 and allowed five hits.

San Marcos 5, Ventura 3--The Cougars (2-12, 0-4) led three times in the Foothill League game, but San Marcos tied the score, 3-3, in the bottom of the ninth and won it on Stefanie Christoferson’s two-run home run in the same inning.

San Marcos tied the score, 2-2, with two out in the seventh inning and Ventura scored once in the ninth to lead, 3-2.

Rio Mesa 3, Oxnard 0--Robyn Roberts walked with the bases loaded in the sixth inning and Jessica Brown followed with a two-run single in a Channel League game at Rio Mesa (8-1, 4-1).

Marcella Ramirez (6-1) gave up three hits, struck out 11 and walked one.

Oxnard dropped to 5-3, 3-2.

Dos Pueblos 1, Buena 0--Erin Kelley (4-2-1) took a one-hitter into the bottom of the seventh inning but gave up consecutive triples and the Bulldogs (6-5-1, 3-2) fell in a Channel League game at Dos Pueblos.

Nordhoff 2, Santa Clara 1--Lilly Hammil scored on Amber France’s ground out with one out in the seventh inning to break a 1-1 tie in a Frontier League game at Santa Clara.

The Rangers improved to 3-4, 1-2.

Antelope Valley 9, Rosamond 1--Tashie Aguinaga had a three-run home run to pace the Antelopes (1-10) in a nonleague game at Antelope Valley.

Cornerstone Christian 13, Santa Maria Valley Christian 3--Cari Becker had a grand slam for the Eagles (2-3) in a nonleague game .
