Award : Oxnard Dispatcher of the Year Selected

The Oxnard police and fire departments named Johnna Carter the Dispatcher of the Year for 1996. She is one of 24 public safety dispatchers who work in the Emergency Communications Center in Oxnard. Carter was selected by co-workers for the second time.

Conejo Park Official to Lead State Group Jesse Washington of Thousand Oaks was named president of the California Park & Recreation Society, a statewide professional membership society. Washington, an administrator with Conejo Recreation Park District in Thousand Oaks, and 10 other officers were sworn in during a banquet in Sacramento.

7 Seniors Win $1,000 Scholarships Seven high school seniors from Ventura County were among $1,000 scholarship winners of the Hispanic American Commitment to Educational Resources program. The program, a nonprofit educational outreach organization, is funded by McDonald’s Operators’ Assn. of Southern California. In all, 75 winners were selected from a field of more than 700 applicants who ranked in the top five percentile of their graduating class.

The winners from Ventura County are Rita Barajas (Ventura High School), Sonia Escobar (Channel Islands High School), Paul Hirsh (Saint Bonaventure High School), Shanna Jasso (Moorpark High School), Enrique Magana (Santa Paula High School), Erin Ramirez (Rio Mesa High School) and Anissa Sepulveda (Saint Bonaventure High School).
