Police to Set Up Sobriety Checkpoint
The Oxnard Police Department, in conjunction with the Port Hueneme Police Department, will conduct a sobriety checkpoint between 7 p.m. Friday and 4 a.m. Saturday at an undisclosed location in Oxnard.
The checkpoint will be the eight such operation run by police this year and the 33rd since the program began in September 1994.
Since the program’s inception, police said alcohol-related traffic accidents in Oxnard have fallen 35%. Department officials hope that the state-funded program will lead to an additional 20% reduction in accidents.
