A dispute between two friends in an apartment building ended in the fatal shooting of a Tujunga man, police said.

Gustavo Alvarez, 25, was killed about 3:30 p.m. Wednesday in his apartment in the 10000 block of Pinewood Avenue, said Los Angeles Police Det. Frank Bishop. The suspect in the killing, 28-year-old Francisco Segura of Tujunga, was arguing with Alvarez, according to witnesses who were in the victim’s apartment at the time of the shooting, Bishop said.

Alvarez died at the scene, he said.

Police were searching Thursday for Segura, who left before officers arrived. Bishop said LAPD detectives recovered a .22-caliber semiautomatic handgun that they believe was used in the shooting.

“We have no idea of a motive, the nature of the dispute or the relationship,” Bishop said. “We do know they were friends with each other and the other witnesses in the apartment. They were all friends.”
