Morgan Placed on Disabled List

Share

JetHawk Manager Rick Burleson said Tuesday that right-handed pitcher Eric Morgan has been placed on the seven-day disabled list with tendinitis in his right hand.

Burleson said the assignment is retroactive to Friday and that the team does not expect to be sent a replacement player with the all-star break beginning Monday.

“We’ve got enough pitching--12 guys without Morgan,” Burleson said. “We wouldn’t get anyone else until after the break.”

Burleson said pitcher Kevin Gryboski could soon come off the disabled list. The right-hander, whose last appearance was May 11, is scheduled to pitch a simulated game Thursday.

AROUND THE LEAGUES

Outfielder Greg Shockey (Cal State Northridge) has decided not to leave the Rancho Cucamonga Quakes for the Mexican League, where he said he was going to seek better competition to show his skills for major league teams.

Shockey, 27, who said some off-the-field issues affected his decision to stay with the Quakes, played at double-A Midland, Texas, last season, but was released by the Angels in spring training. The San Diego Padres signed him in late April, and he was hitting .309 with the Quakes through Monday.

Right-hander Keith Evans (Crespi) was the only local player selected to the South Atlantic League All-Star team. Evans, of Cape Fear, which plays in Fayetteville, N.C., is 7-4 with a 2.29 ERA. He gave up two runs in seven innings Monday night, striking out 10.
