‘Operation Baja’ to Aid Impoverished in Mexico
The third annual “Operation Baja” food, clothing and toy drive to benefit the needy in Tijuana and Rosarito, Mexico, is underway in Long Beach.
“The donations are intended for the poor and needy who live in some of the most remote and isolated parts of Tijuana and Rosarito,” said Long Beach Police Officer Maria Mendez-Lopez. “We are a little low on toys and food right now.”
The Operation Baja Center at 324 Pine Avenue is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Items especially needed this year are blankets, tarps and hand tools to prepare for expected rains, prepackaged rice, beans, flour, sugar and baby care and personal hygiene items, Mendez-Lopez said.
