Beleaguered Chief of Police to Be Honored

Share

The city’s besieged police chief, who is on administrative leave pending an investigation into allegations of a hostile workplace, will be honored with the YMCA’s Distinguished Service Award Sunday.

The chief, John R. Robertson, has described his forced leave, which began Oct. 15, as political retaliation for his investigation into allegations of financial impropriety involving the city’s trash hauling and recycling companies.

Robertson sits on the advisory board of the Orange YMCA, which is celebrating its 75th birthday this year, and encourages all of his department managers to volunteer in the community, YMCA officials said.

The award was scheduled before he was placed on leave.

The event Sunday includes a silent auction, with proceeds going to a camp fund for children, and runs from 4 to 9 p.m. at the Orange Elks Club, 211 E. Chapman Ave. Tickets at the door are $35 per person.
