A 15-year veteran motorcycle police officer was seriously injured Friday morning when he was struck by a car while attempting to halt another auto, authorities said.

The accident occurred shortly before 10 a.m. in the intersection of Woodman Avenue and Lassen Street, said Los Angeles Police Det. Joseph Gomez.

Officer Wayne Valdez, trying to pull over a speeder and with his red lights flashing, was making a left turn onto westbound Lassen Street when he was hit by a white Ford Thunderbird traveling north on Woodman Avenue, Gomez said.
