Biolase Reports a Loss

Biolase Technology Inc., San Clemente manufacturer of cosmetic, dental and surgical products, reported a second-quarter net loss of $1.2 million, or 8 cents a share, compared with a net loss of $677,862, or 5 cents a share, for the like period last year. Sales declined 45% to $236,087 from $432,941.

For the first half, the company posted a net loss of $2 million, or 15 cents a share, compared with a year-earlier net loss of $1.4 million, or 11 cents a share. Sales were down 12% to $498,617 from $567,346.

The company said the sales decline stemmed largely from its decision to defer most deliveries of its tissue-cutting system while partially redesigning the hand piece for the system.
