After surviving two road scares, Connecticut’s men extended their margin in first-place votes in the AP poll from 53-17 over Maryland last week to 66-4 over Duke this week. The Huskies (8-0) earned 1,768 points, 99 more than the Blue Devils (9-1). Maryland (10-1) dropped from second to fifth. Kentucky (9-1) is at No. 3 while Cincinnati (7-0) was fourth. There were big changes at the bottom of the Top 25 with four teams--Auburn (19th), Wisconsin (23rd), Oklahoma (24th) and Iowa (25th)--making their season debuts in the rankings. . . . Connecticut (8-0) led a top eight that stayed the same and Santa Clara (7-0), off to the best start by a West Coast Conference team, made its first appearance in the AP women’s poll at No. 25.
