Man Allegedly Sold Obscene CD-ROMs

A Castaic man was charged Friday with four counts of allegedly selling obscene CD-ROMs depicting bestiality and scatology to undercover Los Angeles police officers at a computer show at the Sherman Oaks Entertainment Center in September.

Marshall Jay Lefcourt, 45, allegedly sold CD-ROMs to investigators who viewed them on a computer in a police vehicle parked outside the venue, according to Los Angeles City prosecutor Lynn Magnandonovan.

Each CD-ROM contained 9,500 images, not all of which were obscene, Magnandonovan said.

She was unable to say how many of the images were illegal, nor could she say how Lefcourt came into possession of the CD-ROMs. Magnandonovan was also unclear as to whether Lefcourt produced or sold large quantities of the CD-ROMs.

Investigators with LAPD’s Organized Crime and Vice Division, who conducted the undercover purchases, could not be reached for comment Friday.

Lefcourt has not been arrested, but he is scheduled for arraignment on Jan. 20.

Each obscenity count carries a maximum penalty of one year in jail and a $1,000 fine, according to Mike Qualls, a spokesman for City Atty. Jim Hahn.
