This self-produced recording documents the robust musical health of the orchestral establishment in Long Beach. Recorded last summer to celebrate the opening of the Aquarium of the Pacific, it rounds up the usual European liquid suspects, plus Frank Bridge’s substantial Edwardian suite “The Sea.” Even with the Bridge--one of those pieces that sounds familiar on first hearing--these are well-traveled waters, and Falletta acknowledges the anticipated points of interest along the way with little sense of discovery. She favors a generally dark and legato sound here, and her orchestra delivers it with ready warmth and articulate conviction.
