DeShaun Foster is taking more time before deciding on whether to attend UCLA or Texas.

The talented Tustin running back will reveal his choice today at a noon press conference at Tustin High. “I wanted to sleep on it one more night,” Foster said.

Foster is considered one of the area’s top recruits, having rushed for a county record 3,398 yards and a Southern Section-record 59 touchdowns.

Jeff Grady, an All-Sunset League quarterback at Edison, has orally committed to play football at Fresno State, Charger Coach Dave White said.

Grady was one of the county’s most proficient passers last season, completing 115 of 193 attempts (59.4%) for 1,538 yards, 10 touchdowns and five interceptions.

Kennedy High defensive tackle Dane Smith plans to sign an intent letter with Cal Poly San Luis Obispo, his father, Bruce Smith, said.

Smith (6-3, 280 pounds) was the Empire League’s defensive MVP and a Southern Section first-team All-Division V selection.

John Vorsheck, a 6-4, 265-pound offensive tackle from Laguna Hills, the Southern Section Division VIII champion, has committed to play football at San Jose State, Bresnahan said.

Vorsheck was a two-year starter and an All-Pacific Coast League first-team selection last season.

San Clemente goalkeeper Kevin Mehrens has orally committed to play soccer at UC Irvine, Triton Coach Mike Pronier said.

Mehrens has 31 shutouts for the Tritons. Mehrens was recently selected to a regional All-American team by the NSCAA, a national coaches’ association. He also is a member of the regional Olympic development under-20 team, and was a Southern Section Division II first-team pick last season.

Edison forward Heidi Prestegard has orally committed to play soccer at the University of San Francisco, according to her mother, Gail.

Prestegard led the Chargers in scoring last season and was an All-Sunset League selection. She also was second-team all-county and Southern Section.

Jami Doddridge, a forward at El Toro, has committed to play women’s soccer for San Jose State, her mother, Julie Doddridge, said. Doddridge also has played four years for the Southern California Blues club team.

Aurelin Weidner, a sweeper on the girls’ soccer team at top-ranked Capistrano Valley, has committed to play for Brigham Young, her mother, Mirid Weidner, said.
