Law Enforcement Spending Studied
Should the city buy a new radar or put a police deputy on duty for an additional 41 days?
These are just some of the options City Council members will choose from at Tuesday’s meeting at 7 p.m., 32400 Paseo Adelanto.
The city is eligible to receive a $33,472 Local Law Enforcement Block Grant from the U.S. Department of Justice. The city must contribute 10% or $3,347 toward chosen programs.
An advisory committee in October recommended the federal funds be used to pay for additional overtime patrols targeting alcohol violations. The committee also recommended allocating $2,000 to a program that offers nonviolent drug offenders a one-year program to steer them away from drug use.
Additionally, the city could use a portion of the funds to purchase 10 to 12 laptop computers, which police could use in the field to reduce time spent filling out crime reports.
