A Marine corporal accused of robbing a North Hollywood supermarket Saturday has been arrested in Maryland, Los Angeles police reported Thursday.

Corbin Rowley, 21, was taken into custody early Thursday morning by Frederick County sheriff’s deputies in that state, said LAPD Det. Steven Metz.

Rowley, originally from Utah, was on a four-day pass from the Twentynine Palms Marine Corps base when he and Edward Garcia robbed a Gelson’s market in the 4700 block of Laurel Canyon Boulevard on Saturday night, police contend.

Police caught Garcia after a high-speed chase. Investigators said they found Rowley’s Marine Corps identification card, driver’s license and military gear in the getaway car.

On Sunday, police recovered a gym bag filled with cash and food coupons, a pistol that allegedly belonged to Rowley and two security camera videotapes.

Several store employees identified Rowley as one of the robbers, Metz said.

Rowley first fled to Arizona, from where he contacted Marine friends and told them he was going to turn himself in, Metz said.

But he then went to visit a friend in Maryland, Metz said. Rowley apparently surrendered to authorities there and was being held on a fugitive warrant without bond, said a Frederick County Detention Center correctional officer.
