Microsoft Team Wins Scavenger Game

James Gwertzman’s team of seven Microsoft employees won “The Game,” an annual 24-hour high-tech scavenger hunt profiled in Saturday’s Times. Gwertzman’s team finished ahead of the second-place finishers, which were led by defending champ Jan Miksovsky, by about two hours. A team led by Game co-founder Joe Belfiore finished third. A dozen teams met at the Queen Mary in Long Beach on Saturday morning and solved clues all day and night until they reached their final destination Sunday afternoon--the site of the old Los Angeles Zoo in Griffith Park. The teams each covered more than 600 miles throughout Southern California. Along the way, players retrieved clues from Joshua Tree National Park, the recently closed Santa’s Village in the San Bernardino Mountains, a Family Fun Center in Anaheim and a buoy 50 yards out in the Pacific. In coming weeks, the clues will be posted on the Internet at https://www.isetv.com.
