Gospel music legends Andrae and Sandra Crouch will take to the streets today to give away more than 40 tons of nonperishable food items to individuals, homeless shelters, soup kitchens, senior citizen programs and other community organizations at a daylong block party.

The Third Annual Block Party-Thanksgiving Fest will run from 5 to 11 p.m. in front of the New Christ Memorial Church of God in Christ at 13333 Vaughn St.

The event will also feature a marketplace with various ethnic foods, carnival rides, music and live performances, organizers said.

“We felt a strong sense of urgency from the community to repeat our goodwill this year, especially in light of the current reduction of government assistance programs,” said Sandra Crouch, who is the church’s pastor.

“We know this will strongly impact the youth of this community and others in a positive way.”

In the past two years, about 7,500 needy people have received food through the program, organizers said.
