Register to Vote
Monday is the last day to register to vote for the Nov. 3 general election. The registrar’s office will be open additional hours today, Sunday and Monday to assist voters.
Who can register: You must be a U.S. citizen, at least 18 on or before election day and a California resident for 29 days before the election. If you move within 28 days of the election, you can vote by returning to your former precinct or by obtaining an absentee ballot for that precinct. If you are in prison or on parole for a felony you are ineligible.
Reasons to register or re-register:
* You have never registered to vote.
* You have moved since the last election.
* You have changed your name.
* You want to change your party affiliation.
How and where to register: Mail-in voter registration forms are available at most county offices, city halls, Department of Motor Vehicle offices, fire stations, post offices, libraries, chambers of commerce, banks, Automobile Club of Southern California offices, high schools and senior citizen centers. Forms may also be obtained by visiting the Los Angeles County registrar-recorder’s office, 12400 Imperial Highway, Norwalk. For information on where to obtain a registration form, call (562) 466-1323. The registrar’s office will be open from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. today and Sunday, and 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday. Registration forms may be dropped off Monday at a collection box in the office until midnight.
Absentee ballots: Applications for absentee ballots are on the back page of your sample ballot. They may also be obtained by writing to the registrar at the above address. Applications for absentee ballots must be received in the registrar’s office by Oct. 27.
