The much-anticipated “Fosse: A Celebration in Song and Dance,” has arrived--it’s 36 Broadway dancers and singers taking a musical journey through the career of showman Bob Fosse. The retrospective was conceived by Richard Maltby Jr., Chet Walker and Ann Reinking.

8pm: Music

In her first appearance with the Pacific Symphony, the celebrated American mezzo-soprano Frederica von Stade sings selections from Canteloube’s “Songs of the Auvergne” and Ravel’s “Sheherazade,” with Carl St.Clair conducting. Then on Friday and Saturday nights, Stade and St. Clair and the orchestra give a pops program, the repertory to include songs by Cole Porter and George Gershwin.

7:30 pm: Film Festival

The 10-day AFI Los Angeles International Film Festival kicks off tonight with the U.S. premiere of Roberto Benigni’s “Life Is Beautiful” (“La Vita E Bella”), an unlikely comedy about the Holocaust that has already garnered awards worldwide, including the prestigious grand jury prize at Cannes.
