Northridge Women Will Put on a Floor Show Friday

Cal State Northridge will play its annual women’s basketball intrasquad game Friday at 3:45 p.m. in the Matador gym.

Northridge, coming off its best Division I season, 14-14 and 9-7 in the Big Sky Conference, will play an exhibition against the Portland Saints on Nov. 8.

Newswire--Pepperdine baseball Coach Frank Sanchez has returned to work nine weeks after undergoing surgery to remove a benign brain tumor. The name was incorrect Thursday.

Northridge opens the regular season at home against Oakland University on Nov. 14.

BASEBALL

Comeback: Coach Frank Sanchez of Pepperdine, a former coach at Hart High, returned to work Wednesday, nine weeks after undergoing brain surgery.

Sanchez, 45, had a benign tumor removed during nine-hour surgery on Aug. 17 at USC University Hospital in Los Angeles.

He had similar surgeries in 1985 and 1990.

EQUESTRIAN

Horseplay: La Reina High won the first Interscholastic Equestrian League horse show of the season Sunday at Hansen Dam Equestrian Center in Lake View Terrace.

Britni Belcher of La Reina won the individual title.

Harvard-Westlake was team reserve champion and Heather Lake of Calabasas High shared individual reserve championship honors with Elizabeth Minkes of Palos Verdes.

Michelle Chang of Louisville won the dressage competition.

GOLF

Swing it: A tournament to benefit Westlake High baseball will be held Nov. 16 at noon at Elkins Ranch Golf Course in Fillmore.

Early look: Birmingham High will host a preseason tournament featuring Reseda and Bell, City Section finalists last season.

Banning, San Fernando and Belmont also are in the tournament Nov. 21-22 and 24.
