Share

Mayor Richard Riordan signed a bill Thursday banning alcohol and tobacco billboards from areas where children congregate.

The city ordinance forbids outdoor ads for tobacco and alcohol within 1,000 feet of homes, schools, parks, playgrounds, youth centers and entertainment centers.

The measure, by Councilman Mike Feuer, unanimously passed the City Council on Sept. 9.

The law goes into effect in 30 days, with a one-year grace period for advertisers to comply.
