Killer Whale Calves Her 3rd Offspring at Park
A killer whale whose birth 13 years ago made history has given birth to her third calf at the SeaWorld marine park here, park officials said Wednesday.
The mother, Kalina, gave birth late Tuesday in the SeaWorld stadium’s main pool after nearly two hours of labor.
Zoologists had not determined the gender of the calf, which weighed about 350 pounds and measured 7 feet long.
Kalina’s birth in 1985 marked a milestone in killer whale breeding and made international headlines because she was the first killer whale to be born and thrive in captivity.
