Fullerton Announces Signing of 18 Athletes

Twelve baseball players, three women’s basketball players and three softball players have signed to play for Cal State Fullerton.

The baseball players include pitchers Travis Ingle of Cypress High, Randy Tymchak of El Camino College, Shane Waroff of Fullerton College, Darric Merrell of Temecula Valley High and Chad Cordero of Chino Don Lugo.

Other signees are outfielders Kyle Boyer of Temecula Valley High, Geoff Comfort of San Mateo College, Dave Giorgis of Rancho Bernardo High and Shane Costa of Visalia Golden West High. Infielders David Garcia and Cole Hilt, both of Temecula Valley High, also signed along with catcher Luis Robles of Rialto High.

Women’s basketball players signed are guards Trilena Amos of Los Angeles Crenshaw and Tamara Quinn of Torrance Bishop Montgomery, and forward Jennifer Tessier of San Diego Francis Parker.

Softball players signed are outfielders Julie Watson of Saugus High and Jocelyn Evans of Newhall Hart High and infielder Tracy Strohecker of Central Arizona College.

WATER POLO

Greg Gray, after 21 years of coaching boys’ water polo at Irvine High, has resigned for personal reasons, Athletic Director Erik Terry said.

The Vaqueros, ranked in the county’s top 10 this season for the first time under Gray, finished second in the Sea View League.

WOMEN’S SOCCER

Jessica Lyons, a midfielder/forward from Capistrano Valley High School, has committed to play women’s soccer at UC Irvine, Sharon Lyons, her mother, said.

Lyons has been on the varsity the last two seasons.

* Hope International’s senior goalkeeper, Sarah Howerton (Mission Viejo), and freshmen forwards Jeana French and Darci Davis, were selected to the NCAA All-West Region team. Senior midfielder Kristin Sesate received honorable mention.
